Could Time Out Travelling Be Damaging to Your Career

Could Time Out Travelling Be Damaging to Your Career You’ve got your degree and landed a job in your dream industry. You’ve worked hard for a few years and then the travel bug bites. You’ve heard about the beautiful beaches in Thailand and the romantic atmosphere in Paris. You’ve seen pictures of them on the Internet and you want to experience some of these places first hand. BUT… you are worried that taking time out of work to travel will damage your career. Well, it depends on how you handle it. Negotiate with your employer: If you are planning to take some time off to travel, share your thoughts with your boss as early as possible. Explain your situation to your boss and ask politely but firmly for a sabbatical. If your company doesn’t have a sabbatical policy, you may still be able to reach a mutual agreement with your supervisor. Depending on the work you do, you may be able to work remotely. If your request is denied no matter how hard you try and you really can’t shake off that travel bug, then you have to ask yourself if this job is really for you. Tell them about your travel experience with pride: Now that you are back from your travel adventure, it’s time to send out some resumes again. It’s understandable that you don’t want to seem as if you have been unemployed for a year. Therefore, don’t hide your travel experience. Tell your potential employers what you have been doing for the past 12 months (or however long your break was). Some of the employers may be even impressed by your experience! If you stand out boldly and carry yourself like a rockstar, you will be. Travel can help your career: Taking time off to travel gives you a chance to reflect on your life. It may open doors that you didn’t even know existed. There are people who find their calling during their travel and turn the travel experience into a new career. Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for professionals, including lawyers and doctors, to leave their professional career behind to travel the world. There is a misconception that travelling means sipping champagne and relaxing by the pool of a five-star hotel. In fact, you can learn and experience a lot more on the road than when you stay at home. For example, you can work and volunteer abroad. This way, you won’t have a big gap in your work history, if that is what worries you.

Heres How To Use Facebook Live - Classy Career Girl

Heres How To Use Facebook Live Welcome to CCGTV! This is a weekly video show where I answer your questions! Every weekday on  YouTube, I’ll be answering YOUR questions and I am super excited!!  If you have a question you would like me to answer on a future episode of CCGTV, leave a comment below or email me at anna@classycareergirl.com. Question: “What are the requirements for Facebook Live? Do I need a Facebook group?” -Jessica Heres How To Use Facebook Live 1. Equipment No, you do not need to have a Facebook group. All you need to do have is a Facebook account and a smart phone. Ideally eventually you have a Facebook business page that you can broadcast from. If you only have a personal Facebook account, you can broadcast live from there as well. You really dont need much. The first one is the hardest and most difficult to figure it out. Its also a little scary but it gets so much easier after that first one! I promise! Then once you get more advanced, you can get a tripod on Amazon.com for $10 and you can set your phone up on the tripod. You can place the tripod a little above your face so your camera looks down at you. Then, with a tripod you  dont have to worry about the shaky hand syndrome. Eventually, you can invest in more  expensive  camera equipment but you dont need any equipment to get  started. [RELATED: How to Save Facebook Live Videos] 2. Outline I also recommend having an outline of what you are going to talk about. I have a whiteboard that I put on my wall that lists out what I plan to talk about. I use my Facebook live as a teaching session so I am not selling anything I am just taeaching and giving as much value and great information as I can. Another great way to use a Facebook live is to answer questions. 3. Test If you do have a Facebook group I would recommend broadcasting in it and testing it out to see how much more enagement you get. We did this test with our Classy Career Girl Network Facebook group with over 2,000 women in that group and I noticed I got more engagement when I did it in my group because those women already know, like and trust me. Also, the comments are secret in most groups so your friends and family members wont see you commenting on it. I think that creates more confidence in putting yourself out there and asking questions in a private Facebook group rather than a business page. The key is to test it out and have fun with it! 4. Trust I think Facebook Live is the new webinar. People are getting bored with webinars and automated engaged.  But when they see your livestreams and they see your face and they answer your question live, its so much better than sitting on a webinar staring at a PowerPoint. Its live and real! I had someone say they loved my Facebook live because they could see me be myself and make a mistake and it wasnt perfect. They see me winging it feel more comfortable. You get to know someone elses personality more on a Facebook Live and you can connect more with your clients and people will trust you more as well. So grab your phone and get started. Let me know when you do your first one. Id love to cheer you on. PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE AND GET STARTED!

Interview with Predag Lesic, CEO of Domain.me - CareerEnlightenment.com

2. In your own words, how would you define personal branding? How have you developed your own personal brand and how has it helped in your success?I dont see personal branding so different in offline and online world. I think that you cannot hide behind a screen and be online something you are not offline. So personal branding for me is just presenting yourself online and offline the way you are, with all your beliefs and values, but also all your faults. I think sometimes people connect to you as a brand and as a person more through your faults than through your virtues. I am maybe speaking from the perspective of a manager of a successful company so its easier for me, but think about young people, the more honest they are to themselves and the easier they share that and actually work on themselves the better their personal brand is. Online and offline. My own personal brand is just me and presenting myself as I am, with my interests, my knowledge, my days off, my bad humor, even my bad photos on social media (where I look worse than I imagine), and I think it helped by showing me as a human being, who knows some things,   who has sometimes wrong beliefs, who doesnt know some stuff, but who wants to learn.3. What are 3 things people should always do when building their brand? What are 3 things they should always avoid? If you want to build your own personal brand there are so many important things but the first 3 I would say are:know yourself inside/outsidebe honest to yourselfdont be afraid to show it to the world. You are just one normal human being.Avoid:lyingstealing other peoples content (or anything)and basically avoid everything your mom taught you to avoid ??4. Whats next for Domain.me?2014 was a big change for every company in our industry with all new domains launched and most of the old domains experienced decrease in size. We grew almost 7% which is three times more than any other domain extension. We plan to continue to grow but the most important th ing for us is not the number of registered domains, but the number of websites built on .me and the end customers who recognize the importance of having a memorable presence online. We have a strong relationship with successful stories around .me and we help them in any way we can. We believe that our customers are actually the best promotion for us and thats for sure the most important thing for us.Thanks Pedrag, youve inspired me to go out and get joshuawaldman.me, I feel much less conflicted about it now ?? Best of luck to you.   Haha, thats great. Youre very welcome.

Job Search Talk Lessons from The Kings Speech - Hire Imaging

Job Search Talk Lessons from The Kings Speech - Hire Imaging Job Search Talk: What’s that? I think of it as the career communications you put out there in the universe, intended to sell you (the product) to the potential buyer (the employer) or to those who might help you (contacts and network). I was recently touched by a movie that carried with it, some very good job talk lessons. I’d like to share three. I have wanted to see this year’s Oscar winner, The King’s Speech since it came out, but missed it in the theaters. So I was delighted to be able to catch it on DVD recently. If you’re not familiar with the movie, it’s based upon the true story of King George VI, played by Colin Firth. In 1936, Georgeâ€"or “Bertie” as he was affectionately calledâ€"found himself in a frightening situation. As the second son of King George V, he was not expected to inherit the throne. Well, life happens. Upon the death of his father and the abdication of his older brother Edward VIII, Bertie became King of England on the eve of WWII. England needed a strong leader. This was terrifying for Bertie. He had dealt with a severe stutter his whole life; and now he was to lead his country in its most public role. He tackled this challenge by engaging an unorthodox speech therapist, Lionel Logue. As a result of their work togetherâ€"and an unlikely friendshipâ€"Bertie was able to find his voice and courageously lead his country through war. Here are some The King’s Speech lessons applicable to job search talk: Job Search Talk Lesson 1: Believe in your own voice. As a child, Bertie was mocked and ignored by the authoritative men in his family. His stutter grew worse; he did not believe he had a voice. Many job seekers lack faith in their valueâ€"their voice. They need to get back or acquire faith in themselves. This comes from persistently pushing through obstacles; never giving up. Note this dialogue between Bertie and Lionel: “King: L-listen to me. Lionel: Why should I waste my time listening to you? King: Because I have a voice! Lionel: Yes, you do.” Are you just wishing others would notice your value? Are you out there talking about  your message and brand, or just silently sitting on the sidelines? Job Search Talk Lesson 2: Give yourself permission to seek help. Bertie had to push past ego and put his trust in his wife’s and therapist’s guidance. Do you have a support network around you? Would you benefit from enlisting a professional coach or counselor to help you with your job talk? Are you encircling yourself with encouraging, positive people who will inspire and motivate you? The more you surround yourself with those who can help you, the more powerful your job talk will be. Job Search Talk Lesson 3: Invest your time. Bertie started to experience success and improvement with his therapy only when he threw himself into the process. It was hard work and it did not happen overnight. There really is nothing like solid preparation, and job search talk is no exception. Are you prepared with your pitches for both employer and networking audiences? Have you role played and practiced to sharpen your interview skills, starting with the phone interview? Are you prepared to tell people what you want and why you deserve it? If not, are you sabotaging people’s ability to help you? The King’s Speech is full of analogies to job search success. Do you have others from the movie to share? I’d love to hear from you!
